Mozart Week in Salzburg -
January 2026

January 23 - 30, 2026
7 nights

We plan to attend the 2026 Mozartwoche (Mozart Week) Festival in Salzburg, Austria at the end of Jan. 2026, the annual commemoration of Mozart’s birth there in 1756. I’ve chosen 10 concerts for us – a broad variety of orchestral, operatic, choral and chamber music featuring some of the finest classical musicians and ensembles of our time. They include pianist Sir Andras Schiff, violinists Renaud Capuçon and Maria Dueñas, the Hagen String Quartet, singers Magdalena Kožena and Philippe Jaroussky, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Ensemble l’Arpeggiata and more.

Both the Sir Andras Schiff and the Hagen Quartet concerts will be their “farewell” from this festival, after performing here annually for years. I know now these concerts will be unforgettable! Repertoire will feature Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Berlioz and others, and of course Mozart, including the opera “The Magic Flute” and the Requiem. The 10 concerts cover a period of just 6 days in the gorgeous concert halls of the Mozarteum, the larger Festspielhaus and the Haus für Mozart.

There’s ample time built in for you to explore the historic and beautiful town of Salzburg on your own, or venture into the nearby Austrian Alps by bus or train. Tour manager Jane Clemens has arranged for scrumptious meals and excursions for us. Of course, I will be offering my usual morning talks about the day’s concerts, performers and repertoire, we may visit the centuries-old Augustiner Brewery, and I hope we can connect again with our popular Salzburg Festival back-stage tour guide and friend, Hermann. 2026 will be our 13th tour to this wonderful festival. I’m really looking forward to it.

Some comments from previous Mozart Week participants:

“The company was wonderful, and the experience of walking through the town, sampling the many galleries, coffee houses, restaurants, and pubs was so enjoyable. . . .I am already looking forward to returning next January for another incredible European musical experience. Jane and Rick did a great job of organizing everything without a glitch, and the hotel was excellent" - Celia O.

“I really enjoyed the trip - thanks for all your organizing and your laid back leadership.  I can admit now that I was somewhat leery in advance about 10 musical events in as many days but I would gladly have stayed for 10 more”. - Pat R.

"...It was the trip of a lifetime - arranged with very personal touches: the tickets for the performances were excellent, the venues were acoustically perfect and the cream, of course, was to be able to enjoy Rick’s talks before the concerts so that musical enjoyment was enormously enhanced. The experience of being immersed in Mozart gave inspiration and romance..." - Stephanie C.

“I can’t imagine hearing music played any better—it was so moving!"
- Virginia G., after a performance of Brahms by Mitsuko Uchida and the Hagen Quartet

“Everything about the trip was outstanding! I can’t think of any changes to make – it works!!”
- Elizabeth B.
